First things First

What on earth is a Bikfalvy anyway and how do you say it?

Well, Bikfalvy is a very old Hungarian name. Hungary is a country in Europe. Long ago (in the 1500's), one of my ancestors left his village in Hungary. The name of the village was Bikfalva, so they called him Peter Bikfalut, which means "Peter from Bikfalva." In time, the name changed to Bikfalvy. Everyone with the name Bikfalvy is Hungarian and once came from the village of Bikfalva. Bikfalva is in an area known as Transylvania (yes, the same area Dracula is from, but there are no vampires in my family).

Bikfalvy DogIt might look like a strange name, but it's easy once you know how to say it. It is pronounced like Bick-FALL-vee. An easy way to remember it is to think of a BIC pen rolling off a shelf and FALLing down. As it FALLs, it writes a V on a dog's nose. Bik-fal-vy. Now that wasn't so hard, was it?

My father was born in Hungary's capital city of Budapest. My father came to the United States during World War II when he was four years old. He came with his mother, father, and little sister.
